Coach Schmelzer has been coaching at EDS since 2021. He will be teaching 5th and 6th-grade science and serving as a middle school advisor. Originally from Bremen, Ohio, Shea is a passionate supporter of Barcelona FC and the Columbus Crew but is excited to learn to love Atlanta United. Shea has over 24 years of soccer experience, including participating in varsity soccer during high school and 2 years playing for Ohio University’s Men’s Club Soccer team. He remains a regular player wherever he can find adult leagues. He also has 5 years of prior coaching experience as well as over 10 years of referee experience.
His coaching experience includes one year as head coach of middle school soccer, one year as head coach of boys junior varsity soccer, and three years as head coach of boys varsity soccer, both at his alma mater. He also obtained two years of experience as technical director at his local club soccer program for boys ages 5-8.
Biography:
Coach Kieron Heblich joined Panther Nation in the fall of 2023. You will notice that Coach Heblich isn’t from around these parts. He is from across the ocean in a country called England. He was born in Cyprus, but I grew up in Scarborough, England. He attended high school and college in his native land however, he also attended college here in the United States at Meridian Community College in Mississippi. He then went on for more education and attended Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and then finished graduate school at Christian Brothers University. Yes, he is a footballer, as you can imagine, and we don’t mean American football it’s what we Yankees call soccer. He has played soccer all his life. He was an apprentice at the professional level at Scarborough Football Club and played semi-professional for Harrogate Town, Whitby Town, and Pickering Town (all in England). He played collegiate soccer at Meridian Community College and Northeastern State University. After playing soccer Coach Heblich turned to the coaching ranks. He has been a coach for over 25 years. At that time, he settled into American life in Memphis, Tennessee. Coach Heblich’s wife is an Augusta native. Together they have 3 kids; Jack, Charlie, and Libby. His passion is soccer, and he is an avid Tottenham Hotspur & England supporter. He is looking forward to helping students achieve goals in athletics as well as their physical education and being involved in a community that cares a lot about its school.
Biography:
Coach Carlson is from the great state of California. She has played volleyball since 6th grade. While attending El Toro High School, she played both softball and volleyball. She went on to play college volleyball at the University Of Mount Olive. She has been coaching year-round since 2014.

Coach Toon will be an assistant teacher in the 3’s here at EDS. This is her first year with us. Coach T is originally from the Central Valley of California in the city of Manteca. She attended East Union High School. She played softball in High School and was part of the Army JROTC. She plays ice hockey and recreationally is an archer. She was introduced to Volleyball through her Mother-in-law (a former collegiate player and volleyball coach). She has been in love with the sport ever since. She learned everything she could from her Mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, who also were volleyball players/coaches. Shelby began coaching volleyball as a volunteer for Columbia County Parks and Recs, where she has been coaching for the last 3 years. Coach is working towards her licensure in Elementary Education from Western Governor’s University. She is excited to be able to be a part of EDS Athletics and Panther Nation!
