Baseball Wins Back-2-Back Titles
What an electrifying championship game it was for the EDS Panthers Baseball team! Picture this: the sun shining bright, the crowd roaring with school spirit, and our Panthers stepping onto the diamond with confidence and determination.Facing off against our formidable opponents, the Saints of St. Mary's Catholic School, we knew it would take nothing short of a heroic effort to secure victory. As the reigning champs, the pressure was on, especially with the Saints holding the number #1 seed. But hey, pressure is just another word for opportunity, right?Led by the masterful pitching of Wynn Prosser, who seemed to channel the spirit of the majors, and fueled by a relentless offense, our Panthers charged ahead, seizing an impressive 8-0 lead early in the game. Bowling balls felt the impact of Panther claws as we participated in the AAMSL Bowling season. At the mid-season point, we participated in the Border Bash, representing Augusta taking on vs the school in Aiken. More importantly, the Jungle came alive at the end of the season championship, and we were triumphant in winning the championship. EDS claimed its third bowling title in six years, with Hardy D. placing 2nd overall and Lily Grace Y in 6th place. It was a striking success!

Our Panthers proved they could handle a paddle, too, as the Pickleball team had a positively fantastic season. Ranked 2nd going into the championship tournament, they played in the Main Draw and Round Robin tournaments, ultimately securing 2nd place overall as a school. Wells and Lee brought home bronze while Brooks J and Tucker B shined competing in the consolation draw final.

The Panthers Boys Varsity Basketball team went all the way to the AAMSL Championship game this season. They took on the Wildcats from Westminster for the third time this season. The Panthers split the two-game regular season series with them. Outstanding play all season from our 8th graders: Isaiah, Forrest, Porter, Harry, Wiley, Hamp, Spence, and Julian.

Congrats to the EDS Clay Target Shooting Team. They competed in the AAMSL Championship and brought home 2nd place overall. The team was led by Sam H., who was 3rd overall and brought home individual hardware in Skeet and Sporting Clays. This is our 3rd year finishing in the top 2 spots.

Golf wins the AAMSL title for the second time in three years. This is our 22 golf title. The team was led by Jack M., the individual low-score champion with a round of 78. He was followed by the 2nd place individual McKnight B., who shot an 80. Congrats to the whole team and Coach Fortune.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 EDS athletic program and the home of the Panthers. You are now part of the Panther Nation! Middle School is a great time to discover your child’s likes and dislikes and allows them to try something new. This Letter will provide a quick overview of our program; however, if you ever need more information, please go to www.edspanthers.com. There you will find the school interscholastic handbook and other useful links. 5th through 8th-grade students have the privilege to participate and represent the EDS community in competitions against other interscholastic schools in the area. Students are given the opportunity at the beginning of each season to express an interest in joining a team. When teams have higher interest than we can accommodate, we will either form a “jr. varsity” team or we will have to make cuts. Congratulations to the EDS Baseball team. This group of coaches and young men won our 1st ever AAMSL baseball title. The Panthers defeated the Stallions from Horse Creek Academy 4-2. This was back-to-back appearances in the championship. The Panthers baseball team, led under new head coaches David Rivers and Dave Dunaway, had a plan to get back to the title game, including heads-up playing from 8th graders Sam D., Connor S., Parker H., Andrew B., and Charles H. The Panthers displayed the grit and determination needed to bring another title to Panther Nation in a season where they went toe-to-toe with tough competitors. Entering the tournament, the Panthers were the top seed, but in the semifinals, we had to face a team that already beat us twice this season – the Augusta Christian Lions. The boy's and girl's soccer teams both won the AAMSL championships this spring. The boys avenged their only losses of the season by defeating the Westminster Wildcats. This is the 13th league soccer title for the boys. The girls completed an undefeated season by beating the Westminster Wildcats as well. This was the girl's third title in four years and 8th soccer league title.

The EDS Panthers baseball team finished the season strong. The team made it to the league tournament as the three seed and had to play St. Mary's of Augusta in which our Panthers pulled the upset over the Saints. In an exciting game, we won 5-3 after trailing 3-1. In an even more exciting game the Panthers lost to the one seed - Augusta Christian Lions in extra innings 8-7. While we didn't get the championship it was an exciting and memorable finish to a great year for EDS athletics and Panther Nation
